RESTORATION!

Skoda S110R

Paul with Elaine and their son William - he was the reason the Skoda was restored.

No-orie could deny that Paul Wyatt is a man who likes his Skodas. As well as this 1970S110R, he's currently got a further eight Skodas of varying ages at home, including the last UK-registered Estelle.

"My dad had Skodas from 1980 onwards and it got me hooked," remembers Paul. "I had a brochure for the S110 and immediately wanted an S110R in yellow."

This car came to Paul via the Skoda Owners Club. He jumped at the chance to buy it from a fellow club member. Originally orange, the Skoda had been a demonstrator and loan car for a Swindon-based dealership. In 1978, the oil cooler got blocked, causing the engine to seize. The car had been towed back to the dealership and shoved in the corner of their workshop.

By 2000, when Paul got hold of the car, it was, in his words, "in a pretty lousy state. It had no fuel tank and the seats were badly deteriorated." The condition of the seats was made worse by the fact that they were still wrapped in the original cellophane covers.

"The cloth material was covered in mould and rot, and the brakes were seized on," remembers Paul. "She was a mess and when I look at the photos I wonder what possessed me to buy it."
